Inspiration And Where Does It Come From?
That is the million dollar question, right? In my chaotic little world it is, not only in interior design but the beauty, fashion, and even the business side of things. Being inspired, I would have to say, is by far the hardest part of my profession. As someone who now finds themselves working from home, and on my phone or computer most of the day, I have to be inspired to make that gorgeous cup of coffee, put on a flawless face of makeup, pick out the trendiest outfit I can find in my closet AND also feel inspired to share it with the world. SHIT! I'm not sure I'm cut-out to do this. I don't always feel inspired to do it so how do I inspire others to do the same and feel good about themselves?
I personally start my mornings with a very imperfect cup of coffee, most of it's on the counter and more than half of it is milk. So, is it really even coffee at that point? Millie, my 14-month-old English Mastiff puppy and I then head to our back deck where we spend about the next hour or so just sitting and listening to the morning birds as we bask in the morning sun. This is where I find most of my inspiration for my day. The ever changing landscape of Northwest Colorado and all its beauty, and my little Millie with all the wonder in the eyes of a growing puppy. These days I feel as if we get caught up in only finding our inspirations from Pinterest, the latest Tik Tok trend, or some sort of social media. This leaves us feeling inadequate, like a failure, not successful enough, and trying to keep up with the "Jones'". Taking these small moments each day, whether it be first thing in the morning, mid-day, or at the end of the day, to find inspiration elsewhere and within our surroundings, has helped me appreciate not only the smaller things in life, but time away from my phone, time to "stop and smell the roses" and time to see the things I might not have seen before.
I encourage each of you the next time you have that itch to remodel a room and you are not sure where you want to start, instead of opening up your phone to Pinterest, take yourself to your favorite place. Sit and just be. Take a look around, remember how this place makes you feel. For memory purposes take a few photos so that you can reference the colors and use them in your space. Now you can begin to recreate your new space with inspiration. Choose textures that replicate the feeling you had in your favorite space. That feeling you had as you just sat. If you closed your eyes could you feel that feeling of the ground in the form of a fabric? That is your inspiration. Use the color palate from the photos you took that day, or choose a wallpaper that either has print or texture that reminds you of this place or the feeling you have when you visit. You get the idea friends, and if not, that is what I am here for. And I hope to receive ideas and inspiration from you as well. The idea is that inspiration can come from anywhere, we just have to look outside the box, or in this day and age, our cell phones. Here's to being inspired!
